Installing Contractor shall submit list of at least three projects, installed with at least 500 feet of heating cable in each project. Operation and Maintenance Data: Operation and Maintenance Data: Include components of system, servicing requirements, Record Drawings, inspection data, test reports, installation instructions, replacement part numbers and availability, location and contact numbers of service depot. DELIVERY, STORAGE and HANDLING Accept products on Site in shipping containers and maintain in place until installation. Provide temporary protection for components not packaged within containers. Maintain in place until installation. Protect materials from damage during installation, completing sections of the work and isolating parts of completed system. Protect all materials that are to be installed within this project from exposure to rain, freezing temperatures and direct sunlight. PRODUCTS MANUFACTURERS Acceptable Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: Nelson Heat Trace. Raychem: Brand of Pentair Thermal Management Thermon Manufacturing Co. MATERIALS Heat Tracing Cable: Self-limiting design. When cable is cut to length in the field, heat output per foot will not change. Freeze Protection Service Voltage: 208 volt, single phase, 60 hertz rated for non-hazardous area with one point power supply for all piping systems. Heating Cable System: Maintain minimum temperature of 40F for specified piping systems, except grease waste system which shall be maintained at 110 degrees F. Size based on output rating in watts per square foot at 50F. Design based on a minimum 0F ambient temperature. Power Demand: Power demand shall be 5 watts per foot for pipe sizes 4 and less, 8 watts per foot for 6 pipe to 8 pipe, 12 watts per foot for 10 to 14. Power demand for grease waste piping shall be 12 watts per foot. Cable shall be capable of being overlapped on itself without causing localized hot spots or creating hazards or possibility of burnout. Constant wattage cable is not acceptable. Failure of controls while in an energized condition shall not raise the temperature sufficiently to cause product failure or damage to piping and insulation materials. Cable shall have a self-regulating factor of at least 90 percent. Cable Core: Radiation cross-linked, semi-conductive polymer. Chemically cross-linked material is not acceptable. Additional protective dielectric jacket between heat producing core material and outer jacket of heater. Current carrying conductors shall use at least 16 gage copper bus wire with self-regulating, semi-conductive core and radiation cross-linked modified polyolefin jacket in order to maximize circuit length capability. Outer insulating jacket shall be modified polyolefin (-CR) jacket for water piping and fluoropolymer (-CT) jacket for grease waste piping. Cable shall be fed via one control loop per sense ambient air or pipe temperature for specified piping system. Provide a digital electronic controller to control and monitor the electric heating cable system for pipe freeze protection and grease waste systems. The controller shall be listed as an electronic controller for electric heat tracing and have a voltage rating of 100-277 Vac. Enclosure shall be FRP and NEMA 4/12 rated. Controller shall be capable of (BMS) BAS integration in order to monitor heat tracing system. Digital electronic controller shall include built-in ground fault protection device (GFPD). Smart Control Platform Pentair DigiTrace ACS-30 Multiple Circuit Distributed Digital Control System or equal. Circuits shall be controlled through the ACS-UIT2 in conjunction with the ACS-PCM2-5. All appropriate RTDs shall be used. See drawing notes for details. ACS-30 UIT2 shall connect to the BMS system through a Digitrace ProtoNode-RER for BACnet. ACCESSORIES Cable Installation Accessories: Fiberglass tape, heat-conductive putty, cable ties, silicone end seals and splice kits, and installation clips all furnished by manufacturer, or as recommended in writing by manufacturer. All components shall be UV stabilized and shall not require the installing contractor to cut into the heating cable core to expose bus wires. Pentair RayClic connections kits or equal. Warning Labels: Refer to Section 22 0553, Identification for Plumbing Piping and Equipment. EXECUTION INSTALLATION Install electric heating cable across expansion, construction, and control joints according to manufacturer's written recommendations using cable protection conduit and slack cable to allow movement without damage to cable. Electric Heating Cable Installation for Freeze Protection for Piping: Install electric heating cables after piping has been tested and before insulation is installed. Install electric heating cables according to IEEE515.1. Install insulation over piping with electric cables according to Section 22 07 19, Plumbing Piping Insulation. Install warning tape on piping insulation where piping is equipped with electric heating cables. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL Testing: System shall be tested and commissioned in accordance with manufacturers installation and operation instructions. Perform tests after cable installation but before application of coverings such as insulation, wall or ceiling construction, or concrete. Test cables for electrical continuity and insulation integrity before energizing. Test cables to verify rating and power input. Energize and measure voltage and current simultaneously. Repeat tests for continuity, insulation resistance, and input power after applying thermal insulation on pipe-mounting cables. Remove and replace malfunctioning units and retest as specified above. All inspection records and testing results shall be recorded and submitted upon completion. Start-up of system shall be performed by factory technician or factory representative.
