SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Between-Glass Integral Blinds: Manufactured units consisting of integral operable louver blind assembly sandwiched between two panes of glass and surrounded by a perimeter extruded aluminum frame, including all operating components and accessories. QUALITY ASSURANCE Source Limitations: Obtain integral louver blind units through one source from a single manufacturer. Insulated Glass Manufacturer Qualifications: Qualified insulating glass manufacturer, approved and certified by integrated glass and blind assembly manufacturer. Installer Qualifications: Minimum 5 years documented experience in the work of this Section. Mockup: Size: Minimum 2 x 2 feet (610 x 610 mm). Show insulating glass units with integrated blind assembly and controls. Locate where directed. Approved mockup may remain as part of the Work. Product Options: Drawings indicate size, profiles, and dimensional requirements of integral louver blinds and are based on the specific system indicated. Do not modify intended performance or aesthetic effects, as judged solely by Architect, except with Architect's approval. Regulatory Requirements: Safety Glass: CategoryII materials complying with testing requirements in 16CFR1201 and ANSIZ97.1. Fire Rated Glass Assemblies: Tested to UL 9, UL 10B, and UL 10C. Subject to compliance with requirements, permanently mark safety glass with certification label of Safety Glazing Certification Council or another certification agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING General: Deliver materials in manufacturers original packaging with label indicating pertinent information identifying the item. Store materials in accordance with manufacturers instructions in a protected dry location off ground. Do not open packaging nor remove labels until time of installation. Protect glazing materials according to manufacturer's written instructions and as needed to prevent damage to glass and glazing materials. PROJECT CONDITIONS Field Measurements: Where integral louver blinds are indicated to fit to other construction, verify dimensions of other construction by field measurements before fabrication and indicate measurements on Shop Drawings. Coordinate fabrication schedule with construction progress to avoid delaying the Work. Established Dimensions: Where field measurements cannot be made without delaying the Work, establish opening dimensions and proceed with fabricating integral louver blinds without field measurements. Coordinate construction to ensure that actual opening dimensions correspond to established dimensions. Coordination: Coordinate as required with wood door and hollow metal frame work to ensure that glass clearance and edge bite, glass heights, setting blocks, spacers, and sealing materials comply with integral blind manufacturers recommendations. When glazing gaskets are used, they shall be of sufficient size and depth to cover and protect secondary glass sealant. Coordinate and ensure that provisions have been made in hollow metal frames to receive the specified hardware and accessories. WARRANTY Furnish manufacturers [5][10] year warranty providing for replacement of defective integrated glass and blind assemblies due to improper workmanship and materials, under normal installation, use, service, and maintenance. Tilt Mechanisms: All pivots, pinions, and racks shall be made of UV stabilized materials to ensure dimensional stability, durability, and maintenance-free service never needing lubrication. Operation: Manufacturers standard operator designed to [tilt][tilt and lift] blinds. Attach to internal glass in unit using designated guide. ACCESSORIES Spacers: Corrosion-resistant aluminum spacers, chemically cleaned and containing a sufficient quantity of desiccant, as determined by unit manufacturer. Desiccant: Air space between glass panes shall be dehydrated with desiccant contained in precise proportions in the spacers. Drying agent shall provide a minimum dew point of -73 F deg. and a moisture-free air space. Primary Seal: Compressed polyisobutylene. Secondary Seal: High quality polysulfide. The contact of both sealants shall provide adhesion to ensure against moisture, vapor penetration, resistance to the effects of solvents and oils, and infiltration of any substance. FABRICATION General: Fabricate integral louver blind units to comply with indicated standards. Include a complete system for assembly of components and anchorage of integral blind units into scheduled openings. Maintain equal louver blade spacing, including separation between blades and frames at head and sill, to produce uniform appearance. Fabricate frames to fit in openings of sizes indicated, with allowances made for fabrication and installation tolerances, adjoining material tolerances, and perimeter sealant joints. Include supports, anchorages, and accessories required for complete assembly. Preglazed Fabrication: Preglaze integral louver blind units at factory, where possible and practical for applications indicated. EXECUTION EXAMINATION Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, operational clearances, and other conditions affecting performance. Ensure hollow metal framing members, mullions, and similar members; and door opening cutouts, have been constructed to accept between-glass integral blind units, and have adequate structural strength to support the weight of glass and blind assembly. Frames and openings shall be level, plumb, square, and in plane. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. PREPARATION Clean surfaces to receive glass units prior to installation. Prepare surfaces using methods recommended by manufacturer. INSTALLATION General: Comply with manufacturer's specifications and recommendations for installation of between-glass integral blind units, hardware, operators, and other components of the work. Set integral blind units plumb, level and true to line, without warp or rack of frames. Provide proper support and anchor securely to surrounding construction with approved fasteners. Use fasteners appropriate to substrate indicated and recommended by unit manufacturer. Separate aluminum from steel and other sources of corrosion of electrolytic action at points of contact with other materials, by inserting a bituminous coating or plastic sheet materials. Apply smoke rated sealant between frames and integral blind unit at smoke tight doors or partitions. ADJUSTING Adjust and fit items to be flush with adjacent construction. Fasten or adhere for tight connections and joints. Adjust louver blinds to operate smoothly, easily, safely, and free from binding or malfunction throughout entire operational range. CLEANING AND PROTECTION Clean surfaces promptly after installation of windows. Exercise care to avoid damage to the finish. Remove excess glazing and sealant compounds, dirt, and other substances. Lubricate hardware and other moving parts. Remove and replace glass that is broken, chipped, cracked, abraded, or damaged in any way, including natural causes, accidents, and vandalism, during construction period. Wash glass on both exposed surfaces in each area of Project not more than four days before date scheduled for inspections that establish date of Substantial Completion. Wash glass as recommended by glass manufacturer. Initiate and maintain protection and other precautions required through the remainder of the construction period, to ensure that, except for normal weathering, window units will be free of damage or deterioration at the time of Substantial Completion. DEMONSTRATION Upon acceptance of the Project, provide full instructions and demonstrate to the Owner's designated representative the proper methods of care, operation and maintenance of integral blind units.
