Back painting shall be done within the manufacturers facility. Fabricate cutouts for notches and holes in glass wall panels without marring visible surfaces. Locate and size cutouts so they fit closely around penetrations in glass wall panels. EXECUTION EXAMINATION Examine substrates, over which glass wall panels are to be mounted, with Installer present, for compliance with installation tolerances, substrate preparation, and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. Verify compatibility with and suitability of substrates, including compatibility of existing finishes or primers with glass display unit mastic. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected and surfaces are dry. PREPARATION Comply with mastic manufacturer's written installation instructions for preparation of substrates, including coating substrates with mastic manufacturer's special bond coating where applicable. INSTALLATION General: Install glass wall panels to comply with glass wall panels manufacturer's written instructions and with referenced GANA publications. Provide a minimum airspace of 1/8 inch (3 mm) between back of glass wall panels and mounting surface for air circulation between back of glass wall panels and face of mounting surface. Install glass wall panels with mastic andglass display unit hardware. Attach glass display unit hardware securely to mounting surfaces with mechanical fasteners installed with anchors or inserts as applicable. Install fasteners so heads do not impose point loads on backs of glass wall panels. Glass Display Unit Clips: Place a felt or plastic pad between glass display unit and each clip to prevent spalling of glass display unit edges. Locate clips so they are symmetrically placed and evenly spaced. Install mastic as follows: Apply barrier coat to glass display unit backing where approved in writing by manufacturers of glass display unit and backing material. Apply mastic to comply with mastic manufacturer's written instructions for coverage and to allow air circulation between back of glass display unit and face of mounting surface. After mastic is applied, align glass display unit and press into place while maintaining a minimum airspace of 1/8 inch (3 mm) between back of glass display unit and mounting surface. CLEANING AND PROTECTION Protect glass wall panels from breakage and contaminating substances resulting from construction operations. Do not permit edges of glass wall panels to be exposed to standing water. Maintain environmental conditions that prevent glass wall panels from being exposed to moisture from condensation or other sources for continuous periods of time. Clean exposed surface of glass wall panels not more than four days before date scheduled for inspections that establish date of Substantial Completion. Clean glass wall panels as recommended in writing by glass display unit manufacturer. END OF SECTION 08 81 15 FOR MDACC USE ONLY.
