SUMMARY Section includes film products applied to glass surfaces to impart the following characteristics: EDIT BELOW TO MEET PROJECT REQUIREMENTS. Decorative glazing surface films. Privacy glazing surface films. Related Requirements: EDIT BELOW TO MEET PROJECT REQUIREMENTS. Section088000 Glazing for substrate to applied films. SUBMITTALS Product Data: Submit for each product specified indicating: Performance properties. Preparation and installation instructions and recommendations. Storage and handling recommendations. Samples: For each type of film specified, two (2) samples, 12 inches square. Qualification Data: Submit documentation indicating qualifications of film manufacturer. Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit for film to include in maintenance manuals. Warranty: Submit sample special warranty specified in this section. Maintenance Data: For each type of films to include in maintenance manuals. QUALITY ASSURANCE Manufacturer Qualifications: A qualified manufacturer that has a minimum of 05 years of documented experience manufacturing films similar to that used for this project. Installer Qualifications: A firm that is authorized by film manufacturer to install film in accordance with guidelines set forth by the manufacturer. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under sample submittals and to evaluate surface preparation techniques and application workmanship. Construct mockups in the location and of the size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by Architect. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING Deliver, store, and handle materials in manufacturer's protective packaging. Store and protect materials according to manufacturer's written recommendations to prevent damage from condensation, temperature changes, direct exposure to sun, or other causes. FIELD CONDITIONS Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install films until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, and temporary HVAC system is operating and maintaining ambient temperature and humidity conditions at occupancy levels during the remainder of the construction period. WARRANTY Manufacturers Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to replace films that deteriorate within specified warranty period. Deterioration of film is defined as defects developed from normal use that are not attributed to glass breakage or to maintaining and cleaning film contrary to manufacturer's written instructions. Defects include edge separation, delamination materially obstructing vision through glass. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. PRODUCTS MANUFACTURERS Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by one of the following: LLumar Films. Solar Gard Window Films. 3M Window Films. Vista Window Films Source Limitations: Obtain each type of film from same manufacturer. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Scratch Resistance: Decorative films shall average less than 12 percent increase in haze when tested according to ASTMD1044 using a Teledyne Taber Abrader using CS10F Type III wheels each loaded to 0.5kg for 100 cycles in a 70percent vacuum. Scratch resistance testing shall be performed by an independent third party agency. Peel Strength: >2720 (>6) grams/inch of width when tested in accordance with ASTMD3330. Surface Burning Characteristics: Provide films that have Flame Spread Index of 0 and Smoke Developed Index of 30 or less when tested in accordance with ASTME84. Provide decorative films that do not have a masking sheet. GLAZING SURFACE FILMS Decorative Film: Translucent, dimensionally stable, cast PVC film, 2-mil- (0.05-mm-) minimum thickness, with pressure-sensitive, clear adhesive back for adhering to glass and releasable protective backing. Basis of Design Product: [Refer to Interior Finish Legend on Drawings]. GLAZING FILM ACCESSORIES General: Provide accessories either manufactured by or acceptable to film manufacturer for application indicated, and with a proven record of compatibility with surfaces contacted in installation. Pressure sensitive adhesive: This adhesive is activated by pressure and water. It is characterized by its permanently tacky nature and its installation ease. Cleaners, Primers, and Sealers: Types recommended by film manufacturer. EXECUTION EXAMINATION Examine substrates for compliance with requirements and for conditions affecting performance of film including glass that is broken, chipped, cracked, abraded, or damaged in any way. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. PREPARATION Comply with manufacturers written instructions for surface preparation. Clean substrates thoroughly prior to installation. Prepare substrates using methods recommended by film manufacturer to achieve the best results for the substrate under project conditions. Protect window frames and surrounding surfaces to prevent damage during installation. INSTALLATION Install in accordance with manufacturers written instructions. Install film continuously, but not necessarily in one (1) continuous length. Install with no gaps or overlaps. If seamed, make seams non-overlapping. Do not remove release liner from film until just before each piece of film is cut and ready for installation. Custom cut to the glass with neat, square corners and edges to within 1/8-inch of the window frame. Remove air bubbles, blisters, and other defects. Be careful to remove fingers to eliminate any contamination or excess water pockets. It is crucial to remove as much water as possible during installation. A final squeegee pass over the entire pane using a Blue Max Blade with an extended handle design (or Thors Hammer) is recommended. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL After installation, view film from a distance of 10 feet against a bright uniform sky or background. Film shall appear uniform in appearance with no visible streaks, wrinkles, banding, thin spots or pinholes. If installed film does not meet these criteria, remove and replace with new film. CLEANING AND PROTECTION Remove excess mounting solution at finished seams, perimeter edges, and adjacent surfaces. Use cleaning methods recommended by film manufacturer. Replace films that cannot be cleaned. Protect installed products until completion of project. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before substantial completion.
