QUALITY ASSURANCE Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing specified carpet tile with minimum ten (10) years documented experience. Installer Qualifications: Company specializing in installing carpet with minimum five (5) years experience, and certified by the manufacturer. Member of Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association (FCICA) or certified by the Floor Covering Installation Board (FCIB). Labeling: A label meeting the Federal Labeling Requirements, as stated in the Textile Products Identification Act under the Federal Trade Commission, shall be attached to the certification samples and the products delivered. Test Reports: Submit manufacturer's NVLAP certified test results to show that carpet meets or exceeds Physical Performance Requirements listed below. Testing performed by a laboratory accredited under the Commerce Department's National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). Report to indicate compliance with requirements of the cited tests. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals, to demonstrate aesthetic effects, and to set quality standards for fabrication and installation. Install mockups in the location and of the size indicated or, if not indicated, as directed by Architect. Notify Architect seven days in advance of dates and times when mockups will be installed. Demonstrate the proposed range of aesthetic effects and workmanship. Obtain Architect's approval of mockups before starting work. FIELD CONDITIONS Comply with CRI's "CRI Carpet Installation Standard" for temperature, humidity, and ventilation limitations. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install carpet tiles until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, wet-work in spaces is complete and dry, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at levels planned for building occupants during the remainder of the construction period. [retain only for large projects] SITE QUALITY CONTROL The Owner reserves the right to take random samples from production runs and/or from delivered carpeting for testing by an independent testing laboratory for abrasion resistance, soiling, crushing, breaking strength, distortion, elongations, loop strength, and color fastness, etc., in order to ascertain if manufactured and/or delivered materials conform to approved samples and specifications. Provide 5 square yards of actual production pieces for each color for testing. Failed testing of production sample shall be at the expense of the Contractor. Carpeting which does not conform to approved samples and specifications will be rejected. Manufacturer's Duties: At the beginning of installation and a minimum of once during the installation and once upon completion of the installation, a representative of the carpet manufacturer shall inspect the installation to ascertain that the work is being installed according to the manufacturer's published recommendations, project specifications and manufacturer's warranty requirements. Inspector shall be an employee of the manufacturer and not of the contractor, distributor, or manufacturer's agent. Within 48 hours following each inspection, notify Owner, Contractor, and Architect in writing of conditions that would preclude issuance of manufacturer's warranty. CLEANING AND PROTECTION Perform the following operations immediately after installing carpet tile: Remove excess adhesive and other surface blemishes using cleaner recommended by carpet tile manufacturer. Remove yarns that protrude from carpet tile surface. Vacuum carpet tile using commercial machine with face-beater element. Protect installed carpet tile to comply with CRI's "Carpet Installation Standard," Section20, "Protecting Indoor Installations." Protect carpet tile against damage from construction operations and placement of equipment and fixtures during the remainder of construction period. Use protection methods indicated or recommended in writing by carpet tile manufacturer. Provide final protection and maintain conditions, in a manner acceptable to manufacturer and installer, to ensure carpet is not damaged or deteriorated at time of Substantial Completion.
