Remove coatings, including curing compounds, and other substances that are incompatible with adhesives and that contain soap, wax, oil, or silicone, without using solvents. Use mechanical methods recommended in writing by the following: Carpet manufacturer. Broom and vacuum clean substrates to be covered immediately before installing carpet. After cleaning, examine substrates for moisture, alkaline salts, carbonation, or dust. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. INSTALLATION Direct-Glue-Down Installation: Comply with CRI104, Section8, "Direct Glue-Down Installation." retain following subparagraph if required for project. coordinate with owners rep Seams: Chemically weld. Pre-Applied Adhesive: Comply with manufacturers instructions. Comply with carpet manufacturer's written recommendations for seam locations and direction of carpet; maintain uniformity of carpet direction and lay of pile. At doorways, center seams under the door in closed position. Bevel adjoining border edges at seams with hand shears. Do not bridge building expansion joints with carpet. Cut and fit carpet to butt tightly to vertical surfaces, permanent fixtures, and built-in furniture including cabinets, pipes, outlets, edgings, thresholds, and nosings. Bind or seal cut edges as recommended by carpet manufacturer. Extend carpet into toe spaces, door reveals, closets, open-bottomed obstructions, removable flanges, alcoves, and similar openings. Maintain reference markers, holes, and openings that are in place or marked for future cutting by repeating on finish flooring as marked on sub-floor. Use nonpermanent, non-staining marking device. Install pattern parallel to walls and borders, maintaining continuity of pattern at seams. [retain only for large projects] SITE QUALITY CONTROL The Owner reserves the right to take random samples from production runs and/or from delivered carpeting for testing by an independent testing laboratory for abrasion resistance, soiling, crushing, breaking strength, distortion, elongations, loop strength, and color fastness, etc., in order to ascertain if manufactured and/or delivered materials conform to approved samples and specifications. Provide 5 square yards of actual production pieces for each color for testing. Failed testing of production sample shall be at the expense of the Contractor. Carpeting which does not conform to approved samples and specifications will be rejected. Manufacturer's Duties: At the beginning of installation and a minimum of once during the installation and once upon completion of the installation, a representative of the carpet manufacturer shall inspect the installation to ascertain that the work is being installed according to the manufacturer's published recommendations, project specifications and manufacturer's warranty requirements. Inspector shall be an employee of the manufacturer and not of the contractor, distributor, or manufacturer's agent. Within 48 hours following each inspection, notify Owner, Contractor, and Architect in writing of conditions that would preclude issuance of manufacturer's warranty. CLEANING Perform the following operations immediately after installing carpet: Remove excess adhesive, seam sealer, and other surface blemishes using cleaner recommended by carpet manufacturer. Remove yarns that protrude from carpet surface. Vacuum carpet using commercial machine with face-beater element. DEMONSTRATION Carpet manufacturer shall provide minimum of two hours, on site, in-service training for facilitys maintenance personnel. PROTECTION Protect installed carpet to comply with CRI104, Section15, "Protection of Indoor Installations."
