SUMMARY Section Includes: Sound barrier mullion trim caps providing sound transmission control at curtain wall or storefront. Fired-rated sound barrier mullion trim caps providing fire and sound transmission control at curtain wall or storefront. Related Requirements: Section079200 "Joint Sealants" for joint sealing. Section092216 "Non-Structural Metal Framing" and Section092900 "Gypsum Board" for interior wall construction. SUBMITTALS Product Data: For each type of product. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes. Shop Drawings: Include typical dimensioned cross-section(s) at the location where drywall partition terminates at the perimeter of curtain wall or storefront. Include dimensions and finish. Sample: Of each exposed product, made from 12-inch (300-mm) lengths of full-size components. Qualification Data: For Installer. Product Test Reports: For each sound barrier mullion trim cap assembly, for ASTM E 90 tests performed by a qualified third party testing agency QUALITY ASSURANCE Installer Qualifications: An entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained and approved by manufacturer. Testing Agency Qualifications: Qualified according to ASTME90 for testing indicatedand accredited by IAS or ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement as complying with ISO/IEC17025. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING Do not deliver sound barrier mullion trim caps until spaces to receive them are clean, dry, and ready for their installation. Store sound barrier mullion trim caps in original undamaged packaging inside well-ventilated area protected from weather, moisture, soiling, extreme temperatures, and humidity. WARRANTY Manufacturer Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of sound barrier mullion trim caps that do not comply with requirements or that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. PRODUCTS PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Sound Transmission: Single Sided Installations: STC 51 or better Double-Sided Installations: STC 57 or better Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes. Mullion trim cap to be sized to accommodate thermal movement MANUFACTURERS Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following: Mull-It-Over Products. Basis of Design: For Sound Control: Mull-It-Over sound barrier mullion trim caps as manufactured by Mull-It-Over Products. Profile: As required to conform to wall construction. For Fire and Sound Control: Mull-It-Over fire and sound barrier mullion trim caps as manufactured by Mull-It-Over Products with intumescent sheets within assembly. Profile: As required to conform to wall construction. COMPONETS Aluminum extrusions with a thickness of 0.125 inches (3.18 mm). Profile required to allow for solid attachment and fastening to the partition wall framing without contacting the curtain wall or storefront system. Sound absorbing foam must be resistant to smoke, flame and microbial growth and meet ASTM E84 class 1 fire rating and have a 0 rating for fungi resistance per ASTM G21. Units shall achieve a STC rating of 51 or 57 as required by wall construction. Finish: Match adjacent glazed aluminum curtain-wall or storefront finish. Acoustical Sealant: As specified in Section 09 29 00 Gypsum Board. Fasteners and Accessories: Manufacturer's standard corrosion-resistant, nonstaining, nonbleeding fasteners and accessories compatible with adjacent materials. Fasteners to be installed with a maximum spacing of 12 o.c. FABRICATION Extrusions and generic profiles to be shipped in custom lengths as required to meet project requirements or shipped in standard incremental foot lengths and cut to exact length on jobsite. ALUMINUM FINISHES High-Performance Organic Finish: Two-coat fluoropolymer finish complying with AAMA2605 and containing not less than 50 percent PVDF or FEVE resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions. Color and Gloss: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. EXECUTION EXAMINATION Examine areas, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. INSTALLATION Sound barrier wall end caps shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturers typical details and instructions along with appropriate spacing to allow for differential movement as provided by manufacturers of adjacent systems or project engineers Notch around horizontal mullions, sills or other obstructions leaving appropriate gap for differential movement between the sound barrier wall end cap and the obstruction. Apply a continuous bead of acoustical sealant to the acoustical foam surface that will be in contact with the drywall edge. Place the sound barrier wall end cap on the vertical surface of the drywall partition wall and loosely install fasteners in the top and bottom slotted holes of the wall end cap. Plumb the wall end cap leaving recommended gap spacing. (a minimum of 1/16 between the interior glass surface and the wall end cap) Tighten top and bottom fasteners to secure end cap and install fasteners at a minimum of 12 on center. Install snap cover to conceal fasteners. Apply sealant at joints of dissimilar materials. CLEANING After work is complete in adjacent areas, clean exposed surfaces with suitable cleaner that will not harm or attack the finish. PROTECTION Protect sound barrier wall end caps from damage during installation, general construction activities, and until turnover of structure. END OF SECTION 09 84 53 FOR MDACC USE ONLY.
