Gynecologic Cancer Genetics Clinic
MD Anderson¡¯s Gynecologic Oncology Center provides hereditary cancer genetic counseling and genetic testing services for women who have ovarian or endometrial (uterine) cancer and a personal or family history that is suggestive of an inherited cancer predisposition. Genetic counseling is also available for women who have never had ovarian or endometrial cancer but have a significant family history of cancer.
If you have ovarian cancer, genetic counseling is particularly recommended if you:
- Have ever had breast cancer
- Have any relatives who have had ovarian cancer
- Have any relatives who were diagnosed with breast cancer before age 50
- Have two or more relatives who had breast cancer at any age
- Are of Ashkenazi (Eastern European) Jewish ancestry
- Have a relative who has tested positive for a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation
If you have uterine (endometrial) cancer, genetic counseling is particularly recommended if you:
- Were diagnosed with endometrial cancer before age 50
- Have ever had colon or rectal cancer
- Have any close relatives with colon, rectal, or endometrial cancer
- Have a relative who has tested positive for a Lynch syndrome mutation (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2 genes)
