Confronting cancer
MD Anderson's marketing and sponsorship initiatives advance the fight to end cancer
Â鶹ӳ» MD Anderson Cancer Center works hand in hand with major corporations across the nation to spread a message of cancer prevention and to raise awareness about the resources available through the No. 1 center for cancer care. You can support these initiatives by taking part in the events, sharing information about these efforts with your friends and family and suggesting sponsorship opportunities that you feel may be beneficial to MD Anderson's mission to end cancer.
PGA TOUR
In 2015, MD Anderson partnered with the PGA TOUR to reduce cancer risk among golfers and golf fans alike. As the Official Cancer Center of the PGA TOUR, MD Anderson works to raise awareness among the golf community by sharing sun safety tips and cancer prevention methods through a variety of outlets, including TV, online and print media. Since 2015, MD Anderson has also had a presence at various tournaments across the country, most visibly through a 30-foot Strike Through Cancer Wall designed for signatures and messages of support from survivors and loved ones. Additional spectator elements include free sunscreen pumps throughout the course, shaded grandstands for fans, sunglasses, lip balm and skin screenings by MD Anderson doctors.
Over the past two years, sun safety messages have reached millions through this relationship. In 2017, MD Anderson activation events will take place at the Shell Houston Open (March 30 - April 2); THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (May 11-14) and the TOUR Championship in Atlanta, Georgia (September 21-21). For the first time at the Shell Houston Open, MD Anderson dermatologists will offer free public skin cancer screenings. If you're headed out to the Shell Houston Open on Saturday, April 1, be sure to stop by the MD Anderson Strike Through Cancer Pavilion located near the 18th green for a free skin cancer screening and the opportunity to have all your questions answered by MD Anderson cancer prevention experts. The public screenings will take place from noon to 4 p.m.
MD Anderson also collaborates with the PGA TOUR for an annual one-hour special on CBS Sports Network. The special highlights the impact cancer has made in the golf community and what members of the PGA TOUR have done to raise funds and awareness to combat the disease. In the past, the special has included interviews with Jack Nicklaus, Bubba Watson, Rory McIlroy, Jarrod Lyle and Phil Mickelson. Also featured in past specials are World Golf Hall of Fame member Colin Montgomerie and Mark Rolfing, a longtime NBC Sports/Golf Channel analyst. Montgomerie and Rolfing serve as MD Anderson ambassadors charged with raising awareness among fellow golfers and fans. Be sure to catch this year's special at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST Saturday, April 15 on CBS Sports Network. For the first time, Stewart and Lisa Cink will share their personal cancer journey and how they learned about MD Anderson though the TOUR.
